 Description:  
As a retirement gift for Mr. Novy, the current art teacher at Heritage Elementary, each student had the opportunity to create a small portrait of him.  These portraits were displayed in the main hallway of the school during Teacher Appreciation Week. 


Time:
1 class period (50 minutes)


Objective:    
Understand basic proportions of a human face
Practice using realistic color choices                  

Materials:   
Pencils
6" X 6" white drawing paper
Crayons
Markers
Photograph of Mr. Novy

Activity:   
1. Introduce simple facial proportions
2. Talk about realistic color choices
3. Student should sketch out Mr. Novy with a pencil
4. Color with markers and crayons when sketch is complete
