Doodle for Google














Description:
Students will submit entries into the Doodle for Google contest. The theme of the contest this year is "If I Could Invent One Thing to Make the World a Better Place..." Using this theme students will come up with an idea to make the world better and then incorporate it into the Google logo.

Time:
3 class periods of Art (class periods are 50 minutes long)
2 optional class periods of Library

Objectives:
Show how art and technology exist together
Practice the brainstorming process to generate ideas
Utilize Library time to research ideas
Sketch preliminary ideas before creating final piece
Learn how to use technology to submit entry

White paper
Pencils
Research materials
Examples of Google Doodles (http://www.google.com/doodles)
Rules and judging criteria for the contest (http://www.google.com/doodle4google/prizes.html)
GOOGLE logo template (http://www.halseybulldog.org/doodle_google.html)

Activity:
Art Class Day 1
1. Introduction to the project- show examples of Google Doodles at http://www.google.com/doodles
2. Have a class brainstorming session on what changes would make the world better
3. Let each student decide which change to focus on and brainstorm individually on something they could invent

Library Class Day 1 
4. Research topic and find visual examples of topic of invention

Art Class Day 2
5. Sketch out inventions
6. Give students Google logo template and allow them to experiment in placing invention into the logo

Art Class Day 3
7. Create finial piece in full color

Library Class Day 2
8. Students will scan their art work into the computer and enter it in the contest
